The legends of Sparta’s history returned home! The game against Vítkovice on Wednesday, October 22, belonged to the HCS Club of Legends, which welcomed five new members. The prestigious group of exceptional Sparta players was expanded by defensemen František Ptáček, Jan Hanzlík, and forwards Jaroslav Hlinka, Petr Ton, and Ondřej Kratěna.
All five legends captured the championship title in the 2005/2006 season, when Sparta defeated their city rivals Slavia in the only all-Prague final in the history of the Czech Extraliga. The HCS Club of Legends, which already includes icons such as goaltender Jiří Holeček, three-time Stanley Cup champion Jiří Hrdina and former Columbus Blue Jackets leader David Výborný, has now grown to 42 members.
Forward Jaroslav Hlinka, former Colorado Avalanche, is a 2001 World Champion and a four-time Czech champion with Sparta. He is also the all-time leading scorer in Sparta’s history. Forward Petr Ton is the top goal scorer in club history, while defenseman František Ptáček is a true legend who led Sparta to the 2007 title as captain.
Also honored were hard-working defenseman Jan Hanzlík and forward Ondřej Kratěna, who won four titles with Sparta and, with eight championship titles in total, stands as the most successful player in the history of the Czech Extraliga!
