Sparta wins CHL group, will face Skellefteå

The group stage of this year´s installment of the Champions Hockey League, Europe´s premier club tournament, is over. Sparta managed to finish on top of Group A ahead of Växjö, Bremerhaven and TPS and will face the iconic Swedish club from Skellefteå in the round of 16.

After losing their first group stage game in southern Sweden 1-2, Sparta went on a 5-game winning streak to secure the top spot in Group A. Prague clinched the play-offs in the final two matches against Bremerhaven, which it won 5-2 and 3-1. Växjö finished second and the bottom two places belong to the Penguins and TPS.

A difficult challenge now awaits Josef Jandač´s squad. In the upcoming round of 16, they will face Skellefteå – three-time SHL Champions and one of the most iconic Swedish clubs. "They have a quality team, which is among the best in the league and is productive. We´re looking forward to another interesting experience and I believe that we have enough quality to advance," said Jaroslav Hlinka, Sparta´s assistant coach and sports manager, after the draw.

The round of 16 will begin on November 16 in Sweden. The rematch, which will take place at the Tipsport arena in Holešovice, is scheduled for November 23.
