Sparta enters its 120th anniversary season. With new management, six new faces in the lineup and a long-term vision. "We want to be a driving force in the whole hockey world. In addition to the success of the men’s team, we will put a great emphasis on the education of young Prague hockey players," says HC Sparta Praha CEO Petr Vosmík.
In brand new red jerseys with the number 120 on their chests, Sparta will start its season on 15 September with a home match against České Budějovice. "It will be special in many ways. Players, fans, partners and Sparta legends have a lot to look forward to. But we don´t want to only look back to history. What is important for us is the future," explains Petr Vosmík.
Thanks to the strong support of the KAPRAIN investment group, Sparta currently operates seven ice surfaces, including two new ones in the recently opened Ice Arena Kateřinky. "At the same time, we are planning to expand the Letňany facility. We want to be one of the leaders in the entire hockey environment, to initiate changes and to set an example in building facilities for young people and their education," he says.
The newly created Sparta – Litoměřice – Letňany hockey axis will help in this process. "For fans, this cooperation will be noticeable in the adult category, but it will have a huge impact especially for the youth. Players who deserve it with their performance can more easily gain experience from bigger clubs," says Tomáš Divíšek, a member of Sparta´s Board of Directors responsible for the Sports Department. "Sparta´s youth are already using regeneration at a comparable level to the A-team, the players have been working with physiotherapists and fitness coaches since they were young," Divíšek recalls.
He has already participated in the arrival
of reinforcements for Sparta’s men’s team. Its colours are now worn by
defenders Aaron Irving and Vojtěch Mozík and forwards Filip Chlapík, Josh
Kestner, Ondřej Najman and Jani Lajunen. The new renowned coach Pavel Gross has
formed a tandem with Miloslav Hořava, who has worked in Sparta in previous
seasons. "We are satisfied with the
team, but we do not rule out that during the season we can strengthen the squad
where needed," says Gross, with whom the Spartans won all the
preseason matches.
On Friday, Sparta will play its last preparatory match, after which it will focus on the start of the season, when it will welcome České Budějovice on 15 September in the modernised O2 Arena. "We have a new multimedia cube above the ice and effect lights, fans can also look forward to more comfortable seats. We want to continue to create the best hockey entertainment in Europe and to be the TOP place where people come for attractive hockey and the best entertainment," says Jakub Dlouhý, member of the Board of Directors responsible for Marketing. "Our ambitious goal for the new season is to move into the top three most visited clubs in Europe," he adds.
